Rep. Cissy Lizarraga was born and raised in El Paso, along with her six brothers and sisters. Cissy’s mother, Olga, was raised in South El Paso and graduated second in her class at Bowie High School before dedicating her life to her family. Her father, Joe Alcantar, was a well-respected El Paso businessman and owner of the Brown, Alcantar & Brown brokerage firm. Alcantar was also a founding director of Continental National Bank, the first Hispanic owned bank in El Paso.
Cissy attended local Catholic schools and is a graduate of UT-El Paso with a Bachelor of Science in Education and UT-Austin with a Master’s of Education. She worked as an educator for almost thirty years and retired from El Paso ISD in 2015.
Cissy has been married to her husband, Marcos Lizarraga for 42 years. Together they raised three daughters and are now grandparents to two grandchildren.
